Why I'm Running for Alabama State Senate District 4

Once when my Dad was trying to answer a question I had asked him, he told me that, “...the worth of a man is measured not by his wealth or his position but by what lives inside him and how he treats others”.   Far too many of our elected officials see it differently.  They listen and respond to those of wealth and position and are seldom seen by those who elected them.  They are generally invisible and unavailable, until election year when they can be seen passing out favors and rushing to support positions aimed at gaining approval with the voters.   This has been especially true of the incumbent for the District 4, State Senate seat.  We need to change that.

Alabama is my home. With the exception of a couple of years during my military service, I’ve lived here all my life.  The people of Alabama are wonderful, and the state is blessed with an abundance of natural beauty and resources.  With her people and her resources, Alabama could and should lead the nation in almost any category.  Sadly, we rank near the top only for those categories that are negative.   I want to see that changed so that those who come after us will enjoy a better life.  Alabama’s legislative leadership of the past several decades has served everyone but the people of the state.  We must make a change and I want to be a part of that change.  Not the kind of change we currently see at the national level, but change that fosters an environment of personal freedom and opportunity for everyone.

I am retired and unlike the incumbent and some others who are seeking this seat, I can be your state senator and nothing else.  I will be visible all across District 4 and will be available to all, regardless of your station in life.  I will seek to understand what your issues are and will work to provide the best representation you could possibly have.  This is your seat and not that of a party or person and with that belief, I earnestly seek your support and vote.
